Originally classmates of the same international school, ☆Taku and VERBAL started a group together in 1998. Shortly after, LISA joined as the main vocalist which started m-flo as a full-scale unit. With ☆Takuʼs exceptional production ability, VERBALʼs rhymical flow and LISAʼs expressive vocals, they struck popularity which garnered them much success in the indies scene.
Their first maxi-single titled [the tripod e.p.] marked their major debut in July of 1999 and earned them an instant spot in the top 10 of the Oricon charts. To further grow on this success, they went on to further release 12 singles and 2 original albums all of which were mega hits. With their 2nd album titled [EXPO EXPO] they made an impact in the landscape of the Japanese music scene with 800,000 sales.
In order to pursue her solo singing career, LISA withdrew from the group in 2002. In 2003 VERBAL and ☆Taku continued together as m-flo with a move which caused a stir within the Japanese music industry. The "Loves" series; a collection of songs which were collaborations with different artists.
They went on to do their own solo headline shows at Nippon Budokan in 2005, followed by Yokohama Arena in 2007, to a scale which was unprecedented. They have also appeared at events such as, "ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL" and "SUMMER SONIC". From the underground to the mainstream with everlasting drive, they took the Japanese music scene by storm.
After collaborating with 41 different artists, they put an end to the "Loves" series in 2008. New prospects such as other units, producing remixes, DJʼing, and even creating their own brands; they approached different avenues while remaining active as artists.
And then, in 2017, the original "m-flo" reunites after 15 years as the original "tripod" with LISA / VERBAL / ☆Taku Takahashi!! m-flo celebrated their 20th debut anniversary in 2018 and once again brings fresh air into Japanese mainstream music.
